Problems in the jaw structure can cause both aesthetic and functional problems. Thanks to the jaw surgery methods applied today, both aesthetic and functional defects can be eliminated.<\/p>\n

What is Jaw Surgery?<\/h2>\n

It is a treatment method applied to treat chewing and speech problems as well as aesthetic appearance in patients with jaw structure disorders.<\/p>\n

Maxillofacial surgeons and orthodontists work together during the treatment process.<\/p>\n

Conditions such as the lower jaw or upper jaw being ahead or behind normal, asymmetries in the placement of the upper and lower jaw and similar conditions can be treated with jaw surgery. Conditions that fall within the field of maxillofacial surgery and can be treated with maxillofacial surgery applications are as follows:<\/p>\n

Extraction of impacted or complicated teeth,
\nLesions of dental origin within the bones,
\nCleft lip and palate,
\nImplant applications for lost teeth,
\nCysts or tumor formations that occur in the jaw,
\nHealing of soft and hard tissues before prosthesis,
\nFractures of the face and jaw,
\nSalivary gland disorders,
\nAesthetic or functional deformities in the mouth, face or jaw area,
\nBone necrosis in the jaw due to cancer treatment.
\nX-rays or tomography are taken to detect problems and then the necessary treatment process is planned according to the patient's condition.<\/p>\n

How is Jaw Surgery Performed?<\/h2>\n

In cases such as irregular teeth or bite defects, orthodontic treatment is applied before the surgical procedure. While the braces treatment applied in this process ensures that the teeth become smoother, it also ensures that the jaw is ready for the surgical procedure. The jaw surgery process is then planned by physicians and plastic surgeons. Unlike other oral and dental health treatments, jaw surgery is performed under general anesthesia and therefore patients do not feel pain or soreness.<\/p>\n

Since the tooth and bone structures have not yet taken their final shape in children between the ages of 11-15, the problems that arise can be solved with orthodontic treatment.
