Loss of teeth or aesthetic problems can be eliminated with various coating methods. Dental veneers greatly help to eliminate functional problems. Of course, in addition to eliminating functional problems, an aesthetic appearance is important. The most frequently used method for this is zirconium veneers.

What is Zirconium Dental Veneers?

Zirconium is a white alloy that is preferred instead of gray metal supports used during bridge or prosthetic procedures. It has both a strong and natural appearance.

The reason why it is most preferred is that its appearance cannot be distinguished from natural teeth.

There are two different methods of zirconium veneers, metal-supported or non-metal-supported, which make oral and dental functions much more useful. The situations where zirconium coating may be necessary are as follows:

  • Significant separation between the teeth,
  • Failure to remove permanent discoloration of the teeth with teeth whitening,
  • Repair of broken and decayed teeth,
  • Elimination of tooth loss,
  • Elimination of the bad appearance of the teeth due to gum recession.

Since zirconium coating is a hard material like natural tooth structure, it can also be applied to molars where chewing is performed.

How is Zirconium Veneer Made?

Before the zirconium coating application, which is the most frequently used coating method in recent years, the damage to the tooth is determined and the zirconium coating is decided by comparing it with the patient. The steps followed during the application are as follows:

  • Under local anesthesia, the teeth on which the veneer will be applied are thinned so that the veneer does not look rough and fits the mouth structure,
  • The inside of the mouth is cleaned and disinfected,
  • Measurements of the tooth(s) to be treated are taken,
  • Temporary tooth application can be performed until zirconium crowns are prepared,
  • It takes approximately 1 week for the zirconium veneers to be ready,
  • The ready-made zirconium veneers are placed on the patient's teeth and made permanent.

A dental examination may be required within 7 to 10 days after the veneer procedure to check the condition of the veneer. If you take care of oral and dental health, zirconium veneers can be used for many years.

What are the Advantages of Zirconium Veneers?

Zirconium veneers help you to have an aesthetic appearance while eliminating the functional problems of the teeth. The prominent advantages of zirconium coating application are as follows:

  • Dark color formation does not occur in the gums,
  • Thanks to its ability to reflect light, it is indistinguishable from real teeth,
  • It offers a long-lasting use with proper maintenance,
  • It helps to protect gum health as the gums adapt,
  • No sensitivity to heat and cold,
  • Staining or yellowing of the teeth is minimal,
  • It helps to prevent bad breath.

Zirconium veneers can be used for a long time as a frequently used coating method today. However, it is important to go for regular dental examinations both to check the condition of the veneers and to monitor general oral and dental health.
